Fall Roof Maintenance

Now that the temperatures are cooling down and the leaves are changing, it’s time to think about fall roof maintenance and winter preparation. Not only do we get to enjoy football games, pumpkin everything, and more time indoors, it’s almost time to hang those Christmas lights. Throughout the spring and summer your roof kept you safe from storms and severe weather. But this cooler weather is the perfect time to replace any damaged shingles, and check for any leaks. It’s also the perfect time for new roof installation as asphalt shingles tend to take better this time of year.

Improving Your Insulation

A new roof in the fall can add to your already existing insulation. As you begin to use the heater in your home, that heat will rise. A new roof will keep as much of that heat in your home instead of escaping. We do this by using new decking that is more dense than worn decking, and upgraded architectural shingles. This leads to lower utility bills in the winter months.

Don’t Wait Too Long

Replacing roofs and shingles in the winter is nearly impossible. Shingles become very brittle in the cold and will crack and break under a nail gun. Fall is really the last opportunity to perform these tasks. And you definitely want to be ready before any snow or ice hit. Snow and ice add an increased weight to your roof and it needs to be able to stand up to this pressure.
