EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR ROOF

In Oklahoma our extremely hot summers can cause damage to your roof in the form of prematurely wearing and cracking of shingles, deck warping, and more. Having the proper roof ventilation will help your roof live longer and stand up to the elements. Solid Roofing of Broken Arrow wants to help you get the most life out of your roof with proper roof ventilation.

WHAT IS ROOF VENTILATION?

Proper roof ventilation consists of a system of intake and exhaust vents that keep air flowing throughout your home. This keeps the temperature at a good level and keeps you comfortable. Without correct intake and exhaust vents, this hot air would become trapped in your home, making you very uncomfortable and wearing out your roof. The type of ventilation you need depends on a few factors, including the climate where you live. There are two types of roof ventilation:

Natural Ventilation- because hot air naturally rises, cool air will replace it if given a place to escape from. The proper vents can allow hot air to escape and be replaced by low-pressure air naturally, keeping your home comfortable.

Mechanical Ventilation- Mechanical vents require a power source to maintain constant airflow. These are used in places where there is not much wind or adequate airflow across surfaces.

PROPER ROOF VENTILATION IS CRUCIAL

In the summer when you have all of that heat with no where to go, it provides an environment for things like mold to grow. Which is very damaging to your health. Repairs for that can be extremely costly. However there are many winter issues that come from inadequate ventilation as well. Ice dams form in the snow and prevent water from draining correctly from your roof. This can lead to added weight in places that it shouldn’t be and compromise the structural integrity of your roof.

Save On Energy Costs
Properly regulating the air flow in your attic space will not only help your roof last longer, but it will keep your energy bills down. You will not need to run your air conditioner near as much to keep your house cool by venting that hot air properly from your roof. If you have questions about your roofs ventilation, contact Solid Roofing today to schedule an inspection.
